I have one of the chain wrench tools that normally works on other cars but there is so little room around the Disco 2 one I just can't grip it. Any advice on a better tool for the job?
Can't get oil filter off!

long screw driver and a hammer and tap it round usually works ,or oil filter pliers

Cheers James, the screwdriver can get a bit messy though, pliers here I come!

Or you could get the special spanner that fits them think there on Ebay made by one of the Disco 2 Boys club members

Laser Oil Filter Pliers 50-114mm | Screwfix.com
Popped down to Screwfix and bought these. There is even a review by someone having trouble with a TD5.
They work a treat 40 mins of struggling sorted by £13 and a 10 minute bike ride to Screwfix!

Oil filter removing tools | eBay I have one of these, brilliant bit of kit (on the right of the picture) I have also modified it to hold shock absorbers still so I can undo the top and bottom nuts when changing them. Got mine from either halfords or screw fix.
That won't fit a D2 filter as the main problem is getting access underneath.
I fitted a shorter filter to mine (can't remember the code at the moment) and it made life so much easier.
Didn't help getting the old one off though.....
That one's much better - I have one as well. Great for the fuel filter as well as oil filter.

I had a pair of them but they seem to have disappeared..
got the 3 legged claw types and a strap type and a chain one the strap on one is very good. .

but only the pliers or screw driver work with a td5 oil filter

What JM'S said^^^^^. I ended up buying filter pliers for mine as my chain wrench and strap wrenches wouldn't do it.
