I took the front prop off at the weekend to replace the worn UJ's, the old UJ's came off no problem and I didn't have any trouble fitting the new spider to the coupling, however...

I can't get the cap to go into the housing on the yoke of the prop, I've tried gently pressing, pressing a bit more with a vice and finally ****ting it with a big hammer. I cleaned the housing out and like I say I didn't have any trouble with the coupling, in fact the problem is only with one side of the yoke, I can get a cap in the other side no problem...any idea's before the big hammer comes out again?

No, I mean the cap itself won't go in the housing. If you took all the needle rollers out and tried to push the empty cap in it won't fit, it's like the hole on the yoke is too small for the cap...but it fits on the other side and on the coupling?

Just had a look and found tiny splinters of metal on the hole (cut my finger as well, bloody thing) it does appear that the hole is more oval than round, the cap definitely won't fit yet the same cap pops in the other side no problem. Does this mean the whole prop is knackered then?

If its not too bad, you might get away with filing it out with a round file, as long as the circlip will fit. But long term, you will definitely need a new propshaft
