Hi all,

I changed the timing belt on my range rover vogue recently, however it's got multiple miss fire and the code reader also read 'miss fire on cylinder 6'.
I'm assuming I've knocked the timing out by a tooth or so... Desperately need to get it done by a specialist BUT... I can't find a single place who does it!?!? Strange!?!

Please does anyone know of any place who can time the timing belt, in the West Midlands or even surrounding boroughs??.?

Thank you

What year and engine??

If it was the BMW M62 V8, did you use the incredibly expensive cam locking kit?

If the timing was out I would expect misfires on all cylinders!

That being said, if it is the M62 engine, did you fit the cam cover gaskets correctly using the blobs of sealant required and fit new cover bolt o rings?

I ask as if oil gets into the plug wells, misfires can happen!

Also did you retime the VANOS gears? (again this is if you are on about the M62)

(this is why we ask for as much vehicle information as possible!)

And that could be your answer.

You could be asking for a garage to go over all the possibilities that you might potentially have got wrong, and they might be struggling to cover the time spent checking 25 things you did right before they find the silly one thing that has been left loose.

The conversation goes something like '£80 **** just to find a loose wire!, You're having me on you rip off merchants'.

Been there, had the conversation - or something like.

Hey,

It is a M62 B44 engine.

And yes you are correct in assuming I did not use the expensive cam locking kit nor did I use the vanos gears.

The cam cover gasket was sealed correctly with sealant etc. Oil has definitely not gone into plug wells.

I've found one garage who will do the job, he quoted £200 and right now I'll be happy to pay that but they're 200miles away!!! Ahhhh

I have heard of people not reconnecting the injectors to the small multiplugs or bending over one of the two small connectors over causing a misfire as well as one of the coils not reconnecting properly, you never know. Its when you replace the part shown in the pic below its hard to see the 4 connectors behind

If you can drive it, you could try Jameson 4x4 in Summer Lane, Birmingham.
They are very good with Rangies and Disco's including the L322's. Have T4 and all the gear, been around for years.
Give them a bell on 0121 333 3556
:)

Hello John how are you well i hope?

I would start with a compression test. Look for a 165 Ibs. Little concerned you didn't lock the cams or go through the lengthy vanos setup using a multimeter.

Cheers lads...
The injectors are definitely connected properly and that area is all sorted. I honestly believe that the problem is the timing being out, as it gets worse when the variable timing changes.
Phoenix 4x4 said he can't do it. Just rang Jameson 4x4 in Birmingham and they said they'll call me back!! Thanks IrishRover.
