I am just wondering if there is a way to make them fold in when the car is locked and out when unlocked?
If the switch had two positions like fold in/fold out then I would just hook up a pair of relays to the central locking so that when the drivers door unlocks it would short out one of the switches and when it locks it would short the other, but it seems to be the same contacts for both so not so easy.
I know that this has been a popular mod on Rover 75s, but I don't know if the FL1 system is related.

Yes very easily. I had auto fold on my V6. It's just a case of fitting a relay to the door lock motor which closes the mirror fold control wire to ground. The Freelander system works just like the R75 and many other vehicles using the same control unit.

Yeah drive to close to a Transit coming the other way. Think you will find that will fold the drivers side one no problem. :D:D:D

I thought that on the 75 I can just be programmed in using a T4. Can it be programmed in on a FL1?

No programming is available in T4 as the CCU doesn't control the mirror fold function. The fold is controlled by a separate ECU all together. This is a very simple by - directional switch. The fold ECU Is supplied with a constant 12 V and ground. There are 2 polarity changing outputs for the mirror motors and a trigger wire. When the trigger wire (often Black, Blue) is grounded, the ECU pulses the mirrors for around 3 seconds, allowing them to fold. When the trigger wire is grounded again, the ECU pulses the mirrors again only reversing the polarity, driving the mirrors out again. This is why it's so easy to make them auto fold. A relay can be used to pulse the trigger to ground. The relay taking its trigger feed from the lock motor.

Mine has double unlock, once for drivers, second for passengers. Does this mean that the mirrors will fold out on drivers door unlock and then back in on second press?
I wish that there was an easy way to detect whether the mirrors are folded or not, then I could override the relay if the mirrors have gone out of sync with the central locking.

Yes it will go out of sync with a double press. There are 2 ways around it. 1st simply press the mirror fold button to re-sync the mirrors if you need to open all doors. Or have the system set to open all doors with a single press ;)

Can this be set using an Hawkeye or only with aT4

I have a T4. I have just spent 90 minutes looking for the option to do this and I can't find it.
There is a menu item to enable or disable "SPE" on one of the configuration menus but it doesn't seem to do anything.
Are there any T4 experts on here?

Yep!

SPE setting is for the single point entry on and off - can't remember the exact phrase for the 2 options but it needs to be disabled and then program the new config to the car and it will change the remote functionality to unlock all doors on the first press

Did you configure the car after changing the options?

I think that I did. There was some warning in a previous screen that it would only change what the diagnostics displays and not the actual behaviour of the vehicle, which seems a bit odd. I disconnected the T4 and went back in and the new setting (i.e. SPE disabled) was still there, it just doesn't actually do anything.
I also tried switching on daytime running lights, not because I want them but because I thought that it would be obvious whether it does anything. The headlights do not come on when the engine is started.
One issue is that I don't currently have a grey plug (for ABS) so when I do a config it works for the blue plug ECUs and then fails on grey and the only way out is to hit abort which totally logs out. Is this preventing it from doing the config?

Hello yes the grey lead is needed to complete programming otherwise it doesn't write the config to the CCU as that happens at the end.

Daytime lights won't work on a non US/Canada car as it needs different wiring and hardware for it to work.

Some of the settings are purely used for setting up the diagnostics (it's dynamic so only displays what it thinks the car has fitted based on the config settings). Others actually change the operation of the car such as SPE, volumetrics etc.

Do all freelanders have the motor in the mirrors to enable them to fold in, or is this mod only for freelanders with electric folding mirrors wanting to automate them with the locking?

Only power fold mirrors can be made to fold automatically ;)
These were fitted to ES and HSE models as standard. It is possible to fit power mirrors to lesser models but I suspect that the wiring will need adding along with the power fold mirrors, the ECU and folding switch.

I just made up a grey lead and it works. SPE is disabled :)

Just need to add the relay now.
