Can you identify this chassis ?

i'm not sure but i think the "pre pro" S2s were built on modified S1 chassis' (or some of them were) as the S1 swb had grown to 88" in '56

so as to whether it's genuine "pre pro" i couldn't say as i really don't know my rivets that well

any chance of posting the chassis number and registration as i've a mate that is very heavily into the very early and factory registered S2s ('58/59 models) and he'd possibly know this vehicle personally

i'll link him to this thread if there's any more info' forthcoming

Cheers
Pete

My mate has been on to a forum (not sure which) about series landies and got some info off them about the vehicle. I cant find the website so I'll ask again when I see him.
He bought it as just an old land rover because he wanted an old one and noticed the chassis No was 002.
Any way some one (rivit counter) told him that it was a pre production chassis so quite a rare landy and nice to know that he's doing a nut and bolt restoration, I'll get photos when he starts to put it back together:)

The parts with voids (spring hangers, outriggers) have already been drilled for galvanising, would be ashame not to. Powrder coating is a terrible solution, unless it's for a museum exhibit.

Nitemare - as an aside, - have a series 2 'barn find' - V5 says built 1958 but registered in '63 (?) -if i give you the the 'numbers' would your mate have a look and see if this is right?
BTW when i took center steering wheel cover off someone had written on underside "nosey Bastard" and then a whole series of initials (could be the factory team?) - DUNNO!

Ah yes I remember now the axle limit strap mountings are different on S3 so yes a 2/2A chassis.
I would of thought if it is an early pre prod vehicle and having a standard restoration the chassis would be painted as per original, especially if it's never to be off-roaded.

he should be able to give an idea of it's age

to be honest i'd join the S2 forum and check out the "model history and restorations" area, pose your questions in there and there'll be at least three knowledgeables check it out for you
Model History & Restorations

Tried to get on that link but just comes up with a domain page/ search facility.
how did you get on it?
and can you get me a link to the 002 chassis thread on there because that's the one that I took to shot blasters

ta:)

Picked it up today, looks ok, thought it might of been yellow or red just to annoy the purists:D

It'll look nice when it's all back together.:)
