Can someone tell me what this is???

Hi all

i was just about to replace replace my alternator but then i noticed that mine had this little blue box on it:


my new alternator doesn't have one and i've seen plenty of pictures of alternators that are fitted that also don't have one. can anyone tell me what this is or what its for?

Noise suppressor, stops interference with the radio..
In the good old days near every car had them...

I think you've driven over a Liquorice allsort and it's flicked off your tyre and stuck to your alternator.

looks like a supressor to me. Used to have one on my car years ago as got noise through the stereo system. Interferance from alternator through the live wire.

Leave it off, if you get a whistle on your radio then put it back on, if you don't need it then you have saved about 5 grams weight - better mpg
