and tell me if this is an easy fix?

This is a picture (not a very good one) of the engine bay of my 1984 Land rover 90 (2.25 petrol)

As you can already tell im not a mechanic but wouldn't mind getting my hands dirty if its an easy fix.

As you can see in this picture there seems to be oil like fluid leaking.

Can someone tell me how this can be fixed? would i need to put a gasket in or seal to stop this?

any comments/feedback or help would be appreciated

you will need new gaskets to seal carb to manifold, need to see more as carb to manifold should suck in air,is pe4trol running down from carb or oil leaking and running down from rocker box

Thanks for you prompt reply - i will take some more pictures & post later on. I cant tell whether its petrol or oil but texture is definately more oil then petrol

The gasket is shagged which is why its leaking. It may be residue from oil vapours being recycled into the inlet via the crankcase breather. Take off the breather pipe and see if your engine is puffing like a steam train. If it is then your rings or bores are worn.
 
hi seb how long have you had the landy?is it possible the last owner just tried cleaning it an left all the crud on?would clean the crap off first then you might have a better chance of seeing if it is actually leaking,,,,does it run ok ?

I can see where your coming from but it looks pretty clean to me :confused:

If the gasket is shagged does that mean a part replacement then? or just a change of some o rings?

whats the kind of damage i should be expected to get this either repaired or replaced?

To answer your question, i haven't actually had it long, however it does run absolutely fine, i only noticed the leak on inspection & thought it didn't look to healthy.

gasket = cheap as chips.
take off the carb, remove all old gasket, clean, put new gasket on and put back together.
simples…………..:rolleyes:
 
Undo the four nuts that hold the carb and carefully lift it off the manifold. Lift off the gasket and give it a clean in petrol then dry it off. Either fit a new gasket (a few quid) or use a smear of silicone gasket on both faces of the old gasket and tighten the carb back down on the manifold. Time taken about 30 minutes and cost minimal. If the engine is running OK then leave well alone.
