Can I tow my caravan on my licence?

well, you edited to sort your spelling but still couldn't spell the insult properly,

what your saying by trying to insult me is actually confirming that what "Stenova" wrote in post35 is incorrect, and that what I have stated is correct, so thank you for agreeing with me even if it was unknowingly,

with regards to the small trucks like the Toyota dyna which is a car license the 3500kgs still applies and a separate test is needed,

you could have a HGV ticket and still have to have a separate test for the trailer,
** this includes the 7.5 ton tipper lorry that was previously on a car license.

No where I can find says anything about being legal to tow above 3500kgs on a post 97 licence. Pre 97 you can tow anything you like basically

If you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997 and have an ordinary category B (car) licence, you can:

drive a vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes or 3,500kg MAM towing a trailer of up to 750kg MAM
tow a trailer over 750kg MAM as long as the combined weight of the trailer and towing vehicle is no more than 3,500kg

I don't get it? Your quoting the dvla which says exactly what I have been saying

" as long as the combined weight of the trailer and towing vehicle is *No more than 3,500kg*" argue that I'm wrong then quote the dvla telling me I'm right?

Go back and re read everything I've said no where have I said anything different

Sprinter with 3500kg MAM can't tow a trailer inc jet ski on a post 97 licence then...

And here again you say you can tow a trailer with a towing vehicle of 3500kg MAM

I think the thing to remember Is IFW sell trailers and arnt the ones who get pulled

I'm tired and confused, you can tow a trailer with a 3500mam van etc, but it's max trailer 750kg

I know what you mean, its very confusing, but no, if your towing vehicle is 3500kg you can't tow anything, the Absolute Maximum train weight (total combined MAM towing vehicle and trailer) on a post 97 licence Is 3500kg, if you wanted to tow with a sprinter you'd have to do the test.

Or be old enough that you have a pre 97 licence (jammy so and so)

Some one said about getting trailer re-plated, is this possible?

Also, if I load up the landy and the van with holiday gubbins, and PC plod stops me for a check, will they just go by the vehicle and van spec plates to judge weights? Or will they make me go to a weigh bridge, and will I get a slapped wrist if the total including contents is more than 3,500kg?

I too have a post '97 license - yet I can legally hire and drive and 18seater minibus - lol, go figure, they took a copy of my license too beforehand. I have also rented and driven a fully loaded luton van which must have been way over the stated amount...

3. Drive a vehicle with a trailer larger than 750 kg's mam as long as the combination of trailer and vehicle is no more than 3500 kg's mam.

please remember these places are selling you things, your not going to be able to blame them if you get pulled, I've operated hire diggers since I could reach the pedals but I don't have a ticket, no one asks and no one cares as its up to you if you want to take the risk, the hire company would only get a slap the the back of the hand. Hell I've had hire vans a few times and I'm apparently not old enough to drive them,
