can I test my turbocharger

having doubts about turbo on 300 tdi I hear it whistling away but does that prove there is a boost and that its performing as it should
can I get a garage to test it or is there something I can do or carry out myself to know for sure

Have a read of the "screech/whistle" thread. Might open your eyes

watch and feel the hoses when you rev the engine, they should expand a little and firm up. there is a boost gauge you can buy it connects to the hose somewhere i think- it written on this site about it if you search it

i have a boost gauge! you should know if its not boosting. whats it feel like when it hits 2.5k revs?

when reaching 2.5 revs I hear the turbo whistle but there is no sensation if added power or acceleration it just continues to accelerate slowly at the same rate as before turbo started
I did rev engine and felt hoses as suggested by "daza" and did fell them expand and harden
I have recently replaced exhaust and got rid of cat which seemed very badly choked due to faulty egr valve which was sending thick black plumes of smoke through every time I accelrated egr now blanked
before decat hardly if ever heard turbo dont know if back pressure from cat would have any bearing on the turbo

engines with turbo's will run more power when yer open the exhausts up,
stick a boost gauge on it, i only feel a steady pull through the rev range on mine and mine has been upped some more now and intercooler and manifold flushed out aswell,
