Can anyone help a newbie?

Hi all, well after the "New owner needs a little help" thread, got some power, the engine turns over though slowly and the battery terminals get warm, but also the cold start, oil pressure light, beam warning, fuel guage and i think the water temp dont work. Has anybody got any ideas on how to solve the problems. The starter also works with no key as does most other bits like the fan, is this normal.

P.s where should the choke be to start the engine? and how do you stop it once its going?

I think that some one has been tinkering with your wireing. have a look at your fuses, the connections betwen the fuse and holder. have a look behind the dash to see if there is any thing strange going on.

It got broking into before i brought it and the dash was smashed and the wires put off the ignition barrel, i put a new dash in and most things seem to work, its got a series III engine 2.25 diesel. one fuse was blown and i replaced that.

if yer battery terminals are getting warm after a few seconds then you most likey have a bad connection probelly yer earth

Would this cause the other problems aswell?

it could well cause them..
if its as bad as you say you might be aswell to get an auto trician to have a look at it. multi lectric problems int easy to solve from this far away, you really need to be there and see fer wur selfs what is going on.


simple example of a lectic fault is when the front left indicator is flashing at a rapid rate of knots.. the problem isn't at the front but the back..
so you can see from that , that leccy fault finding isn't always straight forward.

so check all yer earths first then the other connections

lol funny you mention indicators, they dont flash they just light up and dont flash lol. i'll fit a new earth and see what happens
