Cambelt Change

Hi, my Disco has 150000 miles, and is due for a cambelt change soon. Does anyone know of anyone who is reasonable price-wise, in the Bedford, Lincoln or South Yorkshire area?

I have heard it is a fairly easy job to do yourself, and I'd love to do it, but being a 21year old female, with no experience at fixing up cars, I wouldn't dare do this on my own; my Disco means far too much to me!! However, if I could find someone who I can pay to do it, but who will teach me too, that would be fantastic!

Many thanks :)

Hopefully someone on here is close enough to do it for you, but expect to be charged about £250 at an indy LR garage.

indy LR garage?? sorry...i'm useless

An "Indy LR Garage" is a garage is one that specialises in only repairing Land Rover's and no other type of car. They tend to be much more knowledgeable than normal "car" garages and much cheaper than Land Rover dealership garages.

Its not to bad a job , but you do need some grunt (strength) to get crankshaft bolt undone. Im sure someone will offer real help soon, good luck.

Hi,
Not sure on your model, but following is for 300TDI. Its not an easy job as special tools required to align crank shaft and fuel pump and lots of muscle required for Crank Shaft pulley bolt. To help cut down on future maintenance bills, I would recommend changing water pump and all drive belts at the same time, if water pump not done since new. Parts are cheap but use Original equipment water pump and gaskets, also change water pump bolts. Refill with demineralised water and long life Antifreeze for another 5yrs of trouble free motoring. Checked your profile and you should have no problem with a hunt for a nice friendly mechanic. (Cute Girl)

£250 from an Indy LR garage? Down here in the SW it's more like £450 which is what I paid for mine, including replacing P gasket. The kit alone is over £100.

Shame I like getting people to have hands on experience, I've done stuff for a cup of tea and bacon sandwiches before
Sadly your to far away, this job is one requiring some experience and tools

I know you are a little far away from Coventry, but I just paid £150.00 to have mine done, which was about £150 less than anyone else quoted me. Oh and a tender to replace the air con and aux belts.
