calling all g/box xperts

who knows how to replace the detent springs on 3/4th synchro (2a)........there's a half che wed toffee for the best answer!!!

Well,
1. Grab a cold beer...
2. Put synchro in middle position (neutral), insert spring middle of the hub cage until one little bent end is over the end of the hub cage. Apply inward pressure to the spring to hold it against the center part of the synchro hub.
3. Cuss when it falls out, take a drink and start over
4. While appling pressure to the flat side of spring so it stays against the synchro hub. Use a small flat blade screwdriver to carefully push inward on the non-installed spring end, pushing it over the hub cage.
5. Take another drink, and get ready to start over on spring 2.
It's a good thing there are only three springs... You can go through alot of Beer doing this!
A little tip for the last spring, I found that I needed to apply more pressure to the synchro hub due to the other two stubborn springs giving me less room. I finally moved the synchro hub towards the opposite end of the cage from the end of the spring I needed to get over the cage. It reduced the pressure.
Drink another cold one...

Basically another take on what rj has said above. The bent long nose pliers are essential. When you get to the last spring, resist the temptation to whack it in with a hammer and drift, otherwise you may end up bending the end over double like i did and it getting stuck in there in the wrong position . You need to tap it in whilst lifting the leading edge upwards slightly (easier said than done), you'll see what i mean when u do it

Also handy to have some spares available to speed things up cos you always end up dropping them a few times and they end up in the bottom of the g/box .

If I were you I would strip the box,seeing that you already have it out,the hub is on the front of the box,so you don't have to remove everything,its easy to replace with te hub out,then you can check for other damage aswell,your going to be sorry to remove the gearbox again in one months time!
