Might be an idea to check out your local Truckstop, they often have good deals for a starter set-up, I got Midland CB, Magmount, and aerial for just over £100 at my local one?

cheers for all your advise have you any idear what kind of range i can get with it just a average i know that their will be alot of verables but just a guide of what i can get

Range? Transmitting, I would hope for a couple of miles at least :) You'll be able to hear people from all over the place, but your transmission will be rather more limited.

You need to get the setup SWR'd someone local hopefully would have an SWR meter you can borrow. There's an adjusting screw somewhere on the antenna and you need to either shorten or lengthen the antenna to get the set working properly.

yu dont want to big a range, otherwise yu will pick up every taxi service in Poland :(.
but get it SWRd = it makes all the difference on a laning trop

is srw a regional tune or national ???

SWR stands for "Standing Wave Ratio" you adjust the length of the antenna to match the frequency you're transmitting on, loop the meter in, key the mike (whistling into it helps) and read the meter, you're looking for 1:1 ratio ideally, so adjust the twig one way and check the meter, if it gets worse adjust it the other way etc.

SWR meters are a few quid upwards on ebay, get one with a loop wire you'll need one.
