Since I bought my landy the botched snorkel and air filter set up has done my tits in to say the least, apart from the fact I seriously doubt it would be waterproof should i ever need it to be. I want to keep my snorkel on but wouldn't mind binning the dodgy 300tdi air filter that's been bolted in there. I had a look around t'interweb and I did see something saying that with a mushroom snorkel you could just do away with the filter altogether. Is that the case? It's not as if I live in a particularly dusty country (sunny Scotland) so surely it would be prefiltered enough with the mushroom top?

Cheers in advance

mushroom top as you call it is a pre cleaner ,some with clear plastic bowls are more effective than others but never replace filter of some kind altogether ,ive seen foam cleanable filters fitted into snorkle tube

Thanks James. I've seen the clear plastic bowl type but not really keen on that. Any idea where I could get one of those foam inserts? I've been looking for ages on possible options for air filter replacements but I don't think that's came up

Fit one of these in line, its what I had on my 300TDi and it never leaked water in, just remember to take it out and clean it every now and again...

Good idea but that's crazy expensive. I'm thinking more along the lines of free or as close to free as possible .

Daz, its the big 300tdi air filter that's been botched onto it at the moment and its just a cluster****. I'm having to replace all of the tubing so I thought ideally I'd like to scrap the big filter altogether. Cheers for the offer though.

I definitely think the inline filter would be ideal, just trying to find some way I can make it happen now without costing a fortune. I'm wondering if some open cell foam in the snorkel tube would do the job? So long as it doesn't restrict the air flow

whats wrong with the 300tdi one? mine seams to be watertight

Watertight is the last thing mine is. Ill post a pic at lunchtime and show the state of it ;).

So far ive bought a foam pre filter and a filter sock so ill use both of these together, either at the top of the snorkel where the mushroom is or maybe at the bottom, and see how it goes.
