Buying Nanocom before the Range Rover

And what about remapping? I've heard that just leads to blown gearboxes, is that true?

With the diesel, the ZF4HP22 box is close to it's torque limit, remap it and it's over the limit. Draw your own conclusions about how long it will last if you use the extra torque of a remap. You can have the box uprated or fit a ZF4HP24.
The P38 diesel has a strange throttle response which is what makes people think it's slow. Actually if you boot it it's not bad at all. Compared to my Shogun or Galloper it's bloody quick. Fuel economy is good too, long term average on mine is 24mpg and up to 30mpg on a run plus you can run on bio diesel.:D And it doesn't drop liners:D:D:D

Biodiesel? Is that cheap like LPG? Time to do some research again.

My main priority is that its not more expensive than my current Merc which will do 27 on a long run and about 18-20 on more day to day stuff. Also, how much is road tax?

£270 I think...

RR are not to be run on a budget...your MPG expectations are fairly sound for the Diesel....but repairs and diagnostics for the faults that will crop up will empty a healthy bank balance rather rapidly!!

I still can't get past the long term average of 17 mpg on what is mainly short runs. I was hoping my Nanocom would find something...

Is yours a V8 Nik? That sounds about right, if so.

I can get over 30mpg on my manual diesel on a run but around town it is terrible!

As for performance. My manual diesel goes pretty well but it sounds very agricultural compared to the V8. The V8 is way more refined and pleasant but unless you run it on LPG it'll empty faster than your bank balance!

Nah, diesel. But it is only ever doing short journeys and when it does do a longer journey, it's towing a boat or a horsebox.

But then datatek is getting 24 on short journeys....

Someone mentioned Hawkeye and I second that recommendation. Cheaper, not locked to any VIN or type, can read and reset all major subsystems, can clear ECU adaptives and recalibrate EAS, has no problem with HEVAC which Nanocom apparently does (did) and for those same reasons its easier to resell when you no longer want it. There are a few advanced tricks like unlocking BECM etc that it can't do but you'll need those maybe once or twice in your entire ownership. The money you save doing regular things will easily pay for the odd visit to a workshop with full fat Testbook.

I didn't know Hawkeye did EAS. I must have a look. My Nanocom does have a problem connecting to my HEVAC but not looked in to it yet...

Some tests with the Nanocom require a wait following the previous test. Others require a key back to '0'.

It's a superb piece of kit but is has a fairly small market. If they did one for Corsas with they same requirements to read the dozens of pages of instructions that you need to read, it would bomb.

That's part of its appeal. It makes you feel like a member of a small and exclusive club.

G~

Yeah it shows live data, can force outputs, read and clear faults and recalibrate heights but only to pre-set default values, you can't manually adjust. Its more like a reset. But then Storey Wilson's free software does it all and Datatek can provide the cable. Nobody buys a diag. for P38 EAS I reckon!

I now have a Nanocom AND a Range Rover. I just tried to order an unlock code from BBS and the order went through without prompting for payment, is that normal? I've emailed them but don't expect a reply now until Monday. The site says they accept Visa & Mastercard but I'm guessing the Cyprus issues have scuppered that.

Edit: I also didn't have to enter the Nanocom product ID. Confused.

I've just ordered an unlock this week. Yep the Cyprus banking systems is messing things about. If you followed the form and ticked bank transfer at the bottom they do get back to you. You can then do a bank transfer or pay with paypal. That's what I did.

Oh and they ask you for the ID in the follow up e-mail.
