Buying my first Range Rover...helppppp !

Hello,
I'm looking at buying my first ever range rover.... In the next couple of months.... Been looking around for a while & am still undecided which to get.
I have a few specifics like must be diesel, dark colour grey or black, cream leather, and lowish mileage. For around £26-29k

I have looked at a couple and I think I've settled on a 2009/10 model as this has the digital TFT dash.

Couple of questions for the experts out there:
i) is 40000 miles a reasonable mileage, and should I expect any particular probs ?
ii) is the digital TFT dash option just asking for problems - should i stick to a mech dash.?
iii) Is there anything in general/particular that I should be checking & looking out for when choosing/viewing??

i) Plenty of problems at any mileage.
ii)The more complex they get, the more problems they have.
iii)Everything, get an independant engineers report and a bloody good warranty, then put £5K to one side for things the warranty does not cover.
Most manufacturers have the occasional production lemon, with LR it works the other way, they make the occasional good one, you may get lucky

The 4.4v8 diesel at present doesnt seem to have any turbo problems. But only time will tell as they get older.....

Just as big a problem and much more expensive to fix.

If you want big and reliable, look at Toyota Lexus

I've had 4 Q7's over the last few years, done over 200k miles in them.

1 3.0tdi the others 4.2tdi. The 4.2 is a much better car, only problems I've ever had is dpf sensor needed replacing. That was on a 120k miles 4.2 tdi

What about them eating tyres ?

Tyres are to be expected on any big car, I found that 295 35 21 Michelin latitudes were best in an N2 fitment (Porsche) the compound provided amazing grip and lasted around 18k miles. The Dunlops that were fitted from 06 and later in the models (2010 I think) pirellis only lasted 12k.

I never even wanted to buy a Q7, it happened completely by mistake! I had an RS4 and that was in for some warranty work, parts on back order, had a Q7 courtesy car throughout Audi assist and fell in love with it, funny thing is, everybody who has driven any of the q7's I've had loves them. They are spacious, even for rear seat passengers, good spec in 4.2 guise as standard, unbelievable performance/handling for a big car.

Don't get me wrong, I would love a new range but they are just too much, and I don't mean the cost to buy one, the cost to buy it is irrespective to a certain degree. The cost of a car is the difference between what you pay for it, and what you sell it for plus what it cost you to run. I have always been pleased with the Q7, infact any Audi on that basis.

If land-rover made a reliable disco 3/4 that the above calculation gave good figures I would have one for my mrs!
