OK folks Im still looking for help and advice on buying my 1st landy.(I posted in introduce yourself)
I know I want a SWB about 30 years old preferably with a newer model diesel engine in it,(Im moving to the Rep of Ireland this year and car tax is very much cheaper for cars over 30 years old and I would be able to get classic insurance)
Its how much I should pay for one you see the prices are mad anything from £50 to £5000 and as this is the first time Ive dipped my toes into the water I just dont know where to start.all help and advice on anything to do with buying my 1st landy would be wonderful

where the hell ave you found a landy for £50 im not takin the **** or anything i just want a restoration project

depending on yer budget looking at the age your after id say either a series 2a or an early series 3 expect to pay round the £2000 mark for a nice clean looked after example though but you can find the odd beaten up one on ebay from time to time for around the £500 mark :cool::cool:

Thanks Johnny curt 1
I did see a landy (dont know which model) for sale on one of those postcards in the window of a loacal shop a week or so back for offers above £50 under the heading GOOD HOME WANTED I thought at the time that its scrap vaIue would be much more than that. can see if it is still being advertised if you like (I live in Essex)

if you can get a landy for £50 get it. strip for parts and scrap the rest. or it may just be the project your looking for

Are you absolutely sure you want something 30 years old? As said before, with that age all you would be looking at would be a series, when defenders are just as good, if not better. Having said that, I'm off to barbados to hide from the vicious leaf spring type peoples.

The crazy car tax in Rep of Ireland dictate the age, Not me (I would love a more modern SWB Defender) If I got something newer I could be paying e1000 tax a year and as I am not a rich farmer or own a stud farm it looks like its going to have to be 30 year +
