I already have a Disco2 TD5 which my wife uses every day, but have been offered a Disco 1998 TDi300 for very little money (£400) which I intend to use off road.
What should I be looking out for, in the chassis/engine department as possible problems ?

Thanks
James

there will always be something that needs fixing or bolting back on but you soon begin to love it, parts are cheap and 95% of the things you can do yourself.
But as already suggested main problems are rust, boot, arches, sills inner and outer

Can you weld? And do you already have a welder, etc? If not, budget for that too. It will be rusty, as explained above. I am doing the same, with a Disco around the same price. Worth doing once, and well.

Yes got a Mig, built the chassis for a Lotus7 few years back. This is my new project (don't tell wife)!!!!

ere not all disco are rot boxes you know !!
it worth finding a decent one if it exsists ! you may well have to pay a little for more a decent one but well worth it ........
after owning mine for the past 3 years i am now finding silly areas that will need welding soon but all said and done if you keep on top of the rust you should have many years of good ownership
