Hey Guys and Girls

After much consideration I am now looking to purchase a Disco II TD5. One quick question really what to look out for, are there the similar issues to look for with the TDI's? Tin worm in the same places, rear wheel arches, front inner wings, rear cross member, boot floor?

I am already aware that the engine wiring loom plug needs to be checked for oil ingress, but are there any others?

Thanks so much for you time on this, very much appreciated.

Jason

ps. For road tax reasons I am going to be looking for a pre march 2001 registered TD5!

Land Rover & Tin worm - never heard of that ... surely you're joking!!!

TD5's are very dependant on electrickery... check all the electrics work.

fantastic motors though!

They don't seem to suffer rot like the Series 1. As battenberg says, electrics are the main thing.
Just bought my 2000 Td5 and I'm very pleased with it. I bought from a specialist which gives some peace of mind having a warranty!!

lots of little niggles with TD5. Sunroof seals, rear door seal, brake seals, rear wiper arm is prone to break And of course a lumpy box into second gear. Just done 80k in mine and there's a post listing likely failures. But my mate has managed to get a nice looking low miler and there are some pre facelift models out there that make sense.

To change the light unit on a facelifet costs around £130 and the top screws are prone to fail meaning that you have to remove the whole unit by the hex screws on top and risk messing the alignment of the lights etc. I've bog-fixed mine over Easter by drilling the screws our and locating a captive nut to receive the screws ... so stuff like that is a pain! All was all becasue they wanted to make the front look sexy!

ACE and TCS is good to have and mine has been fairly reliable so far despite taking quite a battering.
