I haven't had a LR for a few years now. My last was a D1 300Tdi which I loved.

I now need a car that can tow and as I'm fairly close to Yarwell and Tixover it makes sense to get a D2 instead of an estate car.

I do very little mileage so looking at the V8s over the Td5 as I want a facelift model around the £4k mark. This one is close to me but says it's a 3.9. Is that right? I would have thought it'd be a 4.0? Is there much difference between the two engines?

OK there seems to be a few problems with the ad for this disco it says 7 seats in one part and 5 seat in another part of the ad, either the year is wrong or the engine size is wrongly listed (not sure not in UK) , there only a picture of rear seats , front seats are covered that can be good or bad ,

No difference at all between the D1 3.9 and the D2 4.0 both are 3,947cc.

No difference in capacity, but a world of difference in implementation. The newer Thor V8 was introduced on the D2, which, while sharing capacity and configuration has an entirely new induction system (commonly known as the bunch of bananas) and a new distributorless ignition and injection system - Bosch Motronic which replaces the older lucas system used on the D1. This results in greatly improved low end torque and tractablilty - god I sound like a brochure ! :)

We've run our D2 V8 for just over 6 years now, it is LPG converted and manual box. ACE has been taken off, it was built as a 5-seater but had been fitted with the 3rd row seats when we bought it.

We tow a lot, max weight, so the TD5 was never a contender.

Fuel is pretty good on a run but gets heavy in stop-start driving.

I'd have another tomorrow, they are a good car and more reliable than the TD5 given proper maintenance.

Just went to see that Disco in the link above. The orange hill descent light in the top right of the dash wash always lit and if you pushed the raise suspension button it beeped 3 times. I think the air bags were aways fully extended.

Number 11 here.
