Hello,

Id be interested in to find out peoples opinion on the defender 90's.
Are they the best standard off roader that land rover do?

What would be considered the best 90 to use as a road/off road vehicle?

Surely there's enough information on the forum to draw a conclusion? :D

But, in my opinion, the Defender is no longer the best off roader that Land Rover do. The Defender is, and probably always will be my favourite, and I'm sure many people can concur with that. But, the reality is, out of the box as it were, the (new) Discovery and Range Rover can probably go further than a standard Defender variant.

Does that make the Disco and the RR offer the better off-roading enjoyment? Well no, I personally don't think so, but it's hard to argue against the fact that as standard, and for the most part, the Defender can't do certain things the the aforementioned models can.

I'd say it's the best utilitarian model though. Best departure angle, and a good short wheelbase see to that. Although there are situations where a 110 with the longer wheelbase will have an advantage, in terms of grip.

A Disco is personally better, cheaper to purchase so you can get a nice one, 100 inch wheel base so ideal length, 100% more comfy on road, just as good off road, will go anywhere a defender will really but you do it without smashing heads/elbows/knees of various parts of the vehicle and you get the added bonus of not having to listen to wind rushing past the ridiculous gaps in defender doors!!

Now wait for the abusive replys as people wont except thier 5K 90 is only 'as good' as the £500 Discos:eek: :argue: (well someone had to say it :D)

I was answering this bit.... but yeah I can see hes decided on a 90.... still, maybe I can save one poor soul from the riggours of 90 driving and convinve him theres nothing wrong with being overweight.... :D

Anyway, back on topic... if you had to get a 90 (;)) then I would go for a 200/300tdi personally as they are less reliant on electrical systems but then I would be using it mostly off road. If you wanted to use it daily then a newer TD5 would prob be the better option as its a more refined engine, better MPG (supposedly) and being a newer vehicle it should have less wear and tear on it in general....

Or get a Disco..... and a welder....

Your asking a question similar to:

"how long is a piece of string"

There isnt an answer really, as the above pair demonstrated  different people have different views.

I happen to think me TD5 90 is the nuts. So thats 3 different opinions now. :D

Twas my first thought :D

However there are 90's, 90's and 90's

200tdi
300tdi
TD5
Petrol
V8
and
Puma's ;)

Nooer Puma TDCI will always be better orft road than Nooer Disco and RR due to better departure and approach angles ;)

Older 90's just require a greater degree of driver skill :D :D :D

[Pedant mode on]You missed out the 2.5TD![Pedant mode off] :)
