Stopped working while I was driving it 50 miles from home. Tow was $200. Got home hooked it up to a OBD2 got (P1472) #2 VIS power/butterfly valves always open. (P0102) MAF Sensor, and (P1715) Something to do with the transmission. It starts and sounds good for a few seconds and then dies. anyone know how to fix it?

It probably didn't like being called a Rover. Calling it a Rover is like calling a fat kid fatty every day. It will make him want to jump off a bridge.

It's not a Rover. At least, not technically!

Vis valves - change the inlet manifold for one from a Rover 75. Cheaper but the same thing.
Disconnect maf sensor and see if it runs better.

Oh- and start saving for HGF on a KV6 - it's expensive!:(

Thanks for the info. It will get called a Land Rover again when it runs. I am leaning toward a short circuit. All 4 wires are showing conductivity when tested against the frame. Is there a common place these Freelanders short on the vis motor wires? Are they all negative wires?

Mad Hat Man I disconnected the MAF and the car will not start at all without it. It starts sounds good and stalls in a few seconds with the MAF plugged in. Changing a MAF or a VIS motor is not hard but they are expensive. I want to be sure of what I need before buying it. Anymore information?

Well, on further investigation, it was a faulty fuel pump. $250 and it started up with no problems. As important as a fuel pump is to the opperation of an engine, one would think it would have it's own sensor. The other fault codes were caused by a lack of fuel.

It is a Land Rover, what do ya expect.

If you want all the sensors in the world, buy a LR4 and you will have more sensors than you know what to do with and I can bet ya after 1 week, you will hate the idea of having sensors!
