Bush removal in long of ACE, what's a drift tool ?

Hi

Ok, So I got a newish torsion bar for my replacement short arm. My question is that on the long arm there is a bush that is worn and needs replacing. According to the RAVE CD, it says to use a suitable "drift tool".

Has anyone replaced this bush and how did they do it? What is a drift tool ?

A drift tool is something you use to push out the old bush. I've used sockets in the past as they come in various sizes.

You find a socket with a suitable external diameter so it fit inside the 'ring' of whatever you are removing the bush from. You then hit the socket with a good solid hammer to push the old bush out - this is called 'drifting' it out.

Indeed yes, and it has the great advantage of not endangers your fingers.

All the DIY shops over here sell threaded bar and matching nuts and washers, so you can get the sizes just right.

I must try that next time I'm re-bushing something.

chap at the garage where the 110 is been murderised. was fabricating a removal tool for the ball joint/swivel pins. onm a D2 it consisted of a short length of steel tube and an M24 threaded bar & a couple of nuts to suit.

It helps tho if you have ratchet spanners or a Vortex socket set.

Ah right, we do have something like that over here, from Bahco from memory.

Haven't bought a set yet because I hadn't found a need - until now!!!

The only thing that crosses my mind is, are the threads on the bolt or bar going to be strong enough to shift an old bush??? You know what they are like, very often the outer metal sleeve is nigh-on welded with rust to the item you are wanting to re-bush.
