Hi, ive just recently put a 200 engine in my defender, it smokin you can smell the oil coming out the exhaut. what could the problem be?
theres alot of oil in the breather pipe?? also i top the oil up and it says its bone dry on the dipstick? now on my TD the dipstick used to be straight up on the side, this one is slightly bent so is it reding wrong? or they ment to be like that?

has anyone any suggestions??

its suppose to be a brand new recon engine, could it be the turbo?

all help appreciated
thanks

If it's a recon engine I would take it back to the company that did it.
The dipstick goes around a bend in the 200 but you should still be able to see the oil level.
Engine burning oil could be anything from pistons, oil rings, valve stem oil seals, turbo seals etc. If it isn't anything obvious then it's an engine apart job.

Drop the oil out of it, builders bucket is useful as it's got a scale in litres on it. A new filter is only a few quid and if you get a 20litre 'bucket' of 15/40 Injun Oil from your local tractor servicing place (no, not Land Rover, tractor as in Massey Ferguson or John Deere) it'll most likely only cost you as much as buying enough for one oil change from Halfrauds.
