Bumper/Plastic restorer

Yeah any Autoglym product is good , i use there super resin polish after applying paint cleaner, but you have to seal the SRP or it will just wash off, SRP,sealant (wet mirror finish at Mo) then a really ggod quaility wax as a top coat like Megs or Vic's,pete 53 etc...

The autoglym bumper stuff will bring it up nice but is not a sealant so again it will not last and will wash off, i would buy a can of the Carplan Nano tech bumper sealant , this will seal in the finish and last for months.

Just washed the freelander this morning and the bumpers have come up a treat (just by washing nothing else) and i applied the bumper sealant about 5 weeks ago now and done about 750miles in ****e weather.

The whole idea of the above is you do it once and it lasts, most other products you need to do eveytime you wash or if it rains.

You have to use it in very small amounts and rub it open well when applied, I don't find it greasy and/or messy. (To make things clear, I went to the pharmacist's and was given purified linseed oil, maybe that makes a difference??) Maybe try the ming's hint and add some "white spirit". Will make it more liquid and easier to apply.

NFN, got into claying the car after a lad at work told me he valets supercars and prestige vehicles for over £500 a shot and he uses the mequires method.

Told me all about it so set off to halfords and must have spent nearly £100 on all the products i could find. Could not believe the results.

i experimented my 02 plate Freelander. Washed the car to within an inch of its life and then thought i would try the clay.

I Was very scepticle, however within 10 minutes i was converted. The contaminents which came off the car was unreal. they turned the clay brown.

Thought it was just cos it was an old car but i upgraded to a 06 plate and did it immediately after picking it up from Stratstones. My wife went mad as could not see anything wrong with the car but eventually let me get on with it. When i finished it looked brand new!

My MX5 was worse, when i got it i could see it needed a gud claying and again the results were excellent.

What APC do you use? i am determined to get these bumpers looking their best ready for the Gaydon do!

Yeah i know people think your mad my mate been washing cars for years and i converted him and know he is telling everyone else !

i started by going on the cleanyourcar.co.uk site its has online sales and a forum with loads of advice and pictures of results etc.. its run by a guy called Tim and gets the products out to you in 24hrs ! have a look on there as it breaks down the products into groups so that you know what your buying loads of APC's on there all are good Tim only sells the best stuff so any product you buy is much better than anything you could buy in Halfords etc...

plus has guides so you can follow the right process (Carlack bumper sealant i'm told is the best but not got any yet) have a look i'm on the forum as NFN and done my motorbike and there loads of before and after photos of after claying etc.. have fun ! join up and say hello !

people are surpised when even a brand new car needs claying thats why a valet detail can be £250 upwards but witha little care from the start can keep it looking new, but everyones version of wow thats clean is differant ? mate brought round his new MGF and under the light it had swirl marks all over it and we did one panel just to see and massive differance thats my idea of clean ! even though it had been valeted by the dealer ? i won't even let Jag clean my car after a service as this use one bucket (so full of grit) and a sponge which is the worst thing you can use for scratches and swirl marks ! but when they see the car they understand why as it looks better than the showrooms cars they have ! they have even asked how i clean it ? to get it looking so wet and mirror like

and its high mileage for its age.

The freelander is looking like a million dollars now ! reckon i've polished a grand into it !

Hi. I have just restored a poor old freelander that has been stood for over a year and the bumpers etc were really tired. I used Autoglym and they are like new. It is seriously good.

Reet mings secret formular [it int gonna be a secret now] i have modded willo's method [as i found it too sticky] no offence willo get a plastic bottle fill bout 60% clean doozle oil , half synthtic is best bout 20% willo juice [sorry mint linseed oil] add a tad er white spirits [non kerasine] shake it up,till it flows nice. . . .put it on wiff a lint free cloth, if after an hour it looses its sheen add more linseed [willo juice] you can use it to black yer tyres aswell. . .better then anyfink yer can buy. . . . .

Hi ming,

After reading the above I went to the garage and added some white spirit (about 20%) to the linseed oil and rubbed in the RHside front bumper part with it, will see tomorrow how it looks like. Thanks for the hint.

Hi ming,

Checked today and it looks good. One thing I noticed though, I'm loosing less juice by applying it as I used to do in the past. So my mixture is now 80% linseed, 19% white spirit and only 1% willo juice.

Hi all,

I have had quite a few PM's about this and thought i would post pic's of the result of the Freelander detail, i have now sold this one after 4 weeks and real going over and £1200 profit which i spent on a 2003 silver kalahri ltd edtion, with 17in wheels and alcantra/leather seats etc...

the best bumper restore is carlack bumper restore and shine or carplan (spray can) Nano tech bumper sealant.

The above are sealants and will last where as the products i have been asked about are just 5 minute "shiners" and will wash off in rain or when you wash your car and will fade quickly the products i have recommened will last months and months.

i take it you've not tried peanut butter (the smooth version)

I tried some stuff from Spautopia called Back For Good. Its a clear coating and makes faded trim look like new. And it doesn't wash off like gels and stops refading. I can really recommend it - made my bumper come up a treat.

The best oil to use on your bumpers is olive oil does a great job

yeah but that washes off doesn't it? This stuff lasts and lasts - it makes your plastics easier to clean as water just beads up and runs off after coating. Plus it stops refading and protects your plastics. Check out spautopia.co.uk and you'll see what I mean.
