Bumper Paint

Hi My front bumper has become very faded on my freelander 1 2001, has anybody used Halfords dark grey plastic paint with any success.regards Martin.

Put a little linseed oil on a cloth and rub it into the plastic, it looks fantastic and lasts for months. Lots of peple here swear by it for faded plastic trim .

Don't waste your time with paint.

Basically you need to replenish the natural oils which have leeched out of the plastic over time under the effects of weather, detergents etc.

Some folks have reported using a heat gun to melt the surface a little?

Others have used all manner of oily stuff - linseed oil, WD40, even peanut butter - as storm99 suggests - no joking.

Me - I just use Autoglym Bumper and Trim Gel on the bumpers, mirror backs, and all the other ABS plastic bits. They all look like new.

On my 1998 Sprinter I was contemplating visiting a scrappie for a replacement bumper as the original was seriously miscoloured and patchy due to overuse of Traffic Film Remover. Autoglym made it look like a new bumper.

Not cheap at £7.49 from Halfrauds - but it really works well. Just rub it in well with a cotton-wool pad.

It ain't broke, but it's like Jack Sparrer's treasure island - it can only be found by those who know where it is!

Linseed oil is good, this is what it did for mine today.

The way forward is to use tyre dressing paint, the stuff that makes old tyres look new.

Ive used it on my bumpers and it came up from a very very light faded grey colour to a jet black in one covering
well worth it

Quick question.... How does linseed oil fair in the rain?
