You wouldn't say that if when driving along a bull ran out ..........
Full size bull or a bulldog, these bars ensure no matter how low the object you hit, the bar pushes back a smashes the grille and bonnet, so something that may have only did in the lower section of the front apron then becomes the hammer to smash all the gear above.
I see it all the time up here, a 4wd bumps a small wallaby or ferral pig and bang goes the driving lights grille and right across the bonnet, if you have the full width "farm gate" type add right and left wings to the damage bill, the bar just pivots on it's mounts. We get a lot of "cityfied" victims who are unable to open their bonnets after a bump because the bar is sitting on top of the closed locked bonnet.
My D1 has one of the cursed things, but it is useful for the winch and it came with the vehicle, I would not have fitted it if the Disco was standard.

Mmmm, time to ge out the barbie

Not as far out there as it sounds, we have a guy here lives 15 klm out of town, they call him "road kill Rudy", he is not adverse to the cullinary delights of a hind quarter of run down road wallaby or a serving of bar tenderised porker, he draws the line at dead dingo and pizzled python though.
Like the sound of feral pig, and I don't mean the squeal ;):D
