It looks like the steering on my 1976 S3 is need of sorting, car currently wobbles and swerves at speed and is incredibly heavy at slow speeds. Unfortunately determining the problem and subsequently fixing it is beyond my capabilities. Does anyone know a garage in Buckinghamshire that could do this work ?

I do not know your area, your symptoms are more than likely related to the swivels.
Try asking if a board member is local to you who could help in exchange for beer tokens.
To run an old Landie you need to develop your mechanical skills, there will always be a job on the to do list. If you could help or watch someone work on your motor it will give confidence.

Man up :D

I do know the P38 box can be used easily as can landcruiser parts…..however I cant lose another point for my tax exempt status now :( need to keep steering, suspension and chassis all the same if I change my rear axle to a custom one

OK, perhaps not in Buckinghamshire and it will require you to get your hands dirty...

Have a look at:

Richer Engineering

here's an article on findiing problems in the Series front end. Between this for diagnostic purposes and the manual for the nuts and bolts of fixing it, you may well be able to deal with this yourself.

I have seen stiff and wandery steering down to things as simple as ball joints (seized), or lack of oil in the steering relay. You might want to have a poke around and even if you do end up taking it to a garage you will at least have an idea what they're doing.

I strongly recommend getting to know your Series truck - been teaching people how-to on them for nearly two decades now.

Where abouts in Buckinghamshire? I'm from round those parts so will probably know somebody close by.

Im in Penn just outside Beaconsfield, found these guys landroverrepair.co.uk and will maybe give them a call and see what they say as would quite like to perhaps discuss a few other jobs with them. I would of course like to learn how to do all these things myself but it also comes down to tools and location for doing a lot of the job, by the time ive bought everything i need id have spent as much getting it done professionally and i dont really have the space to carry the work out, using a communal garage block the width of the landy and with no power and no water supply, not the easiest spot.
