Hi Guy's,I've not been on this site for about 3 or 4 years,my freelander 1 finally ground to a terminal halt last year, everything that could of gone wrong, did:mad:So i came upon a lovely Disco 2 and although outwith my budget i bought it.It's a 2003 model Td5 and had about 70 odd thousand miles on the clock. When i test drove the car i found the ignition to be sticky, sometimes not turning for 10 minutes or so.This ignition switch was replaced but after a short while the key broke in the new switch.Ignition removed and taken to a locksmith to remove broken key. That was unsuccessful and new switch was broken trying to remove the key.I was then fitted with a second hand lock and that has lasted almost a year including a 2,500 mile trip to France and back.I have now within the last two weeks broken another key in the second hand ignition switch. So in one year i will now be on my fourth switch.Apart from the first one none of them were tight or sticky:confused:I thought these cars were designed for farmers with big muscles:rolleyes:Does anyone know what i am doing wrong and why does it take 2 weeks for a replacement switch to be sent from the supplier. Thanks for any help you can give team,Regards David

Hi, normally it doesnt have to brake so easily... i had that problem just once in 7 years, used this one Ignition Switch / Steering Lock Discovery 2 98-04 Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order. , 3 years since then without probs...you can remove the blades from those keys and insert them in your fob with some handiness.... before fitting squirt some special dirt repellent lock lubricant in it.... not WD40 cos it atracts dust

If you get the new lock S/F recommended twist out the key blade with a pair of pliers. Split the original key fog with a blade, it will be tough and feel like it should have a screw, but it will come apart. Remove the old key blade,, put the new blade in ( now could also be a good time to change the battery) Snap it together and its done.

Yes your problem seems being serious but that's not big problem you may contact to Hollywood locksmith for any type of locksmithing problems. They are expert on their profession.
Me thinks "hollywood" and Fife, are, er, like, a few miles apart - do they do home visits :)

Now, of course, had that been Hollyrood Locksmiths....:D

I had some fantastic help with a broken ignition key recently from a facebook group member, so if you haven't ordered a replacement yet, I can tell you how to get the broken key out and replaced if that's what you'd like to do? You could even do that anyway in anticipation of your new key breaking, to have as a spare ;)
