Hi there,

New to this website but it seems like the place to ask this question.

My Freelander's (Series 1, 1.8l, W reg) IRD unit has just gone and Land Rover have just quoted me £2,000 for a new IRD unit to get it fixed. I might have the wrong end of the stick but does the IRD only come into place when you send power to the back wheels?

If so, can I just carry out the 'Mondo Mod' on my car and therefore not have to fork out £2,000 to fix the IRD?

Thanks for any help guys, much appreciated.

Adam

not to sure mate i know the right person to ask though as far as i remember its constantly on but not always in use i think hes having your pants down at that price recon ird about £600 about 6hours on ramp job done

ird is required all the time as it also provides drive to front wheels. now the vcu can be done away with if you wish to go 2wd, but would be looking well away from a dealer and towards an independent, especially at those prices.
