Evening,

Think my gearbox is broken :( only reverse though. It's in my 1986 90 LT77 original box as far as I'm aware so should be around 110000 miles.
Last few months it's been getting really difficult to select reverse, then I got stuck in some sticky mud and spent a while going first to reverse trying to free myself.
After this it started to chuck the stick out of reverse especially when under load. But today I went to reverse and all I get is clunk clunk crunch when the clutch is let out. I've had a little look, took the light switch out, no different, tried it in low box and no different, even with the transfer box in neutral you can hear this god awful grinding.

Any suggestions to a quick fix? Or is it a box out job? :(

Cheers,

box out ,and new rev idler plus layshaft unless very lucky ,early lt77s the rev idler doesnt fully engage layshaft teeth so front edge wears eventually so it just pops out or drive is lost

Bugger, I have been offered another box in exchange for mine with a slight crunch going into fourth? Apparently there's a local chap who repaid gearboxes who can do it for around £80 plus parts. Worth fixing mine or changing for this other box if I get the problem sorted. Can't be without the Landy for more than a weekend really as it has to be ready by Monday mornings for work.

i couldnt say without seeing both , 4th crunch could just be £6 baulk ring or a sign of impending total failure

Bloody hell. Is there a guide anywhere I could follow to do the rev idler on my box? Or is it really something for a transmissions specialist? Thanks for all the help so fa,r especially at this time.

I'll grab it in the morning, located near the drain plug right? Neighbours and girlfriend might think it a bit strange me laying underneath at quarter to 1

But thanks for all your help, I've read a fair few posts of yours and the knowledge you have is quite astounding.

I've been out and crawled underneath and I think this is what I can read.

If that's not right i'll give it a wipe with some fuel and try again.

Cheers,
