Britpart Parts are rubbish...

Unfortunately I have no option but to buy the cheapest of everything. This of course means Britpart. So far most of the parts have been fine but there have been some dodgy ones. Any real rubbish that arrived (steering swivels) were replaced and I reckon with the minimal mileage I will clock up on my series 3 it's worth a punt on the cheap stuff. If i'm more flush later on I will replace failed parts with better quality. I'll never be able to afford genuine though. By the way I had both new rear quarter panels arrive yesterday (Britpart via Paddocks) and they look great. Even ready primed and good to go.

genuine wont be genuine for a series, there will be limited sources for any including lr to buy from

I'll say it again - Britpart is the Blue Box Lottery. Some have to play, some are lucky enough not to have to. Roughly speaking the genuine articles are five times the price. Some vehicles are just not worth spending that much on, so BP has a place.

What is the difference between Genuine parts (with a G on the end, often Delphi, TRW, AP, Lemforder etc) and Land Rover Genuine?

From what I understand, from reading posts on here, there is no difference for older vehicles. Spare parts are made by 'after market' manufacturers either to a basic spec possibly using lower grade materials, or to as close to OEM specs for a higher cost. I 'think' LR buy the OEM parts and sell them as original LR bits, unless it is a current vehicle and the original OEM parts are still available by the original manufacturers that LR currently use. Not many of us on here are running current production vehicles.

Now read all the posts in this thread and then go and find one a couple of years older and every reply would be birtpart negative with good reason, I think their head sales guy seems to be doing a good job?
But on the other hand over the last few years people have wised up and tend to go for the G numbers or oe only as they have all (incl me) been bitten by the blue box.

I have happily fitted britpart calipers to the front and they have been cheap enough I can change them
Multiple times before spending the same as OE.

I have fitted other bits and pieces to - half shaft, a bolt kit for the front suspension, wiper arms, that sort of stuff, I have however found their gaskets and rubber seal type products to be less durable - I buy OE gaskets or cut my own and se genuine/oem seals

I think as long as you know what your buying they are okay. Calipers were the most 'critical' thing I have fitted and I was dubious but 2 years later they are fine still
