guys,

Can someone enlighten me as to whats just come through the post..... ive ordered from a site that i thought was genuine lr parts etc..... to avoid our well known blue box brand. So why have i had a red box with britpart oem sprawled all over it?????

The reason i ordered from this site is to replace my failed britpart fuel pump in the first place!!! Dont get me wrong a light lens is ok or a cable tie not a componant that will leave me in the shi*t!

So confused...............

Ps and while were at it explain why i saw britpart boxes at my main dealer???

Its not a dig at the brand just where the hell do you go for lucas, girling, ring, bosch etc??????

britpart is a wholesaler it sells genuine ,branded as well as pattern, lucas like a lot of old names is not what it was, often its just slightly better pattern,if you want quality you need names that are still mass producing ie bosch ,valeo etc

Britpart are a parts supplier not a manufacturer, as being a supplier they sell 'aftermarket' pattern parts, usually in blue boxes, OEM parts which intents and purposes is Genuine in a brown cardboard box with Britpart name and Genuine in the manufacturers box.

So where is the confusion, in knowing what to order?

Once upon a time, back in the day, when me and me dad were boys, in the war, BP were awesome for almost everything, then fast forward a decade, they were rubbish and you had to specify genuine or OEM from suppliers, now they have cleaned up their act and enacted some decent quality control and due to the volumes they can shift have muscled in on the supply and distribution of genuine parts too, they are about the only one who will be doing aftermarket parts for the likes of the D3/4/5 etc, as the only alternative to genuine.

I have had a mixed experience with their parts, was good, then horrid, now I just refuse their parts and buy genuine as much as I can afford, D1 200Tdi thermostat from dealer £15 Vs £2.50~£3.50 for aftermarket.

So if i pulled the waterpump off my other defender, one which i know has never been changed since new who made that exact componant? All im after is a quality component that i can rely on.

I think you need to look into the way motor parts supply works. It is quite complicated.
But in short, manufacturers source parts from wherever they think will give them the best deal. and that may change from time to time.
And many parts may be made in only one or two factories in the world, but go into all kinds of different branded boxes.
In the main, you get what you pay for.

Thankyou all for your replies though, it’s interesting on how it all works. Would someone be able to recommend a site or shop where i can buy a premium branded part?

Like I said though britpart do save the day on most parts just not taking a gamble of important “leave me stranded” components

Hi Tommy,

Same as I fitted the other week to mine, I just made sure to choose one that ends in G same as you received.

I would not worry about it to much. I assume you have tried LRDIRECT?

Cheers

Any reputable supplier. Just say you want a genuine part, or OEM of that is what you want.

The component will be from a original equipment manufacturer OEM, there won't be just one supplier supplying the quantity that vehicle manufacturers require with vehicles coming of the line every couple of minutes or so.

So Google the part number and look for the manufacturers and suppliers of OEM pumps, I've just done it for a viscous fan coupling for my D1 and in five minutes I found seven and and one from Germany and Italy.
The price is also a good indication, aftermarket Britpart £20, OEM £60 and from LR heading towards £300.

i purchased a 'britpart oem' horn recently and it arrived in a green valeo box, all proper job. just had a britpart sticker on the outside but was a genuine oem part

Guess if you're wanting original equipment quality you need to buy from Land Rover parts dept.
Just to show u what's available from one supplier and one product, so No u don't have to go to a Land Rover parts dept.
