Hi

Have had clutch problems recently, so changed the slave and i had a nitemare trying to bleed the system. Eventually back-bled it then found that the master was leaking ever so slightly inside the cab. Changed the master to a Britpart one from Paddocks. The system still wont bleed so I had the RAC out. The RAC guy bled everything and traced the problem to the master not being any good. He put his finger over the end of the master and when I pumped the pedal a few times there was barely any pressure! So he reckons the new master has faulty seals.

Has anyone else had this sort of problem with Britpart master cylinders? Also does anyone know the price of a new master cylinder from Landrover?

Thanks, Alan

a new LR one cost a small fortune, find a bearmach stockist

good practice to change both master and slave - also if you buy cheap (britpart) you'll end up buying twice

Yeah I was thinking LR would charge over the odds for it. The master and slave that came off were AP Lockheed so I thought perhaps they had been changed in the past also, or are these the standard ones? When I bought the master from Paddock there was only one listed so I didnt know it was Britpart, but I have heard theyre not so great (at anything it appears). Kind of need one asap so may have to go to LR as need to use the disco to get down to Leamington Spa on monday. Cheers for your input Sean

Cheers for the input. Ended up going to Town & County in Aberdeen as needed to get one as quick as possible. So £127 later, I have an AP one. Interestingly enough, though the same design as the Britpart one, the reservior feed doesnt rotate on the AP one. I reckon thats what caused the leak on the Britpart one. Took the Britpart out and the plunger wasnt even connected to the cylinder, so that was reassuring considering it'd been on the car for a day. Fitted the AP one, bled it and it still doesnt do anything, so I guess its a gearbox issue.

Sorry to hear that, get it off photograph it (get the piccies on here too), send it back to Paddocks asking for a full refund with a good letter, tell them all what happened and also tell them what was said about it by the recovery man. CC it to Britpart and all the LR and 4x4 magazines also put all the recipients’ names onto the letter to paddocks and Britpart. I bet you get your money back and at a push you will get the money for the new one too. Tell them all what happened and also tell them what was said about it by the recovery man.

Britpart are awful and have now caused you more money then it would have cost just to get the bearmach, or AP LOCKHEED one in the first place.

Britpart really are the worst parts co. I have ever had to deal with.

Thanks for the help there. Paddocks have already agreed to refund it and refund the postage. Its just annoying really, the cars been out of action for 2.5weeks now. Going to have use a hire car to get down the road to Leamington on Monday now.

Well its finally working again. The garage came down and started it in gear and drove the 5miles to their place. They pressure bled it and got it working?! Said there was massive amounts of air in the system. I have no idea how they have done this, considering I also pressure bled it as did the RAC and they had no luck at all. Anyway, it still feels difficult to engage the gears so I wonder if the 5 mile un up the road perhaps did something, as in, the clutch fork has moved and given the illusion its ok again and will probably break off soon.

Blimey, I bet thats what the problem was. Thanks! Well I took it out this evening and did a bit of green laning and it coped very well, only thing letting it down was the crap rear tyres, the new Grabbers on the front hauled it through though and the clutch felt better and better as time went on. Cheers for everyones help!
