Britpart Lift Pump

I've just bought a Britpart Lift Pump to replace my knackered old Land Rover one (spewing fuel and oil everywhere!). I've heard bad things about them but is there anyone here who hasn't had any problems with them? It's a 2.5 N/A with the converter kit. Do I need to use the black plastic spacer block by the way?

for engine parts i buy genuine land rover. just orderd timing belt and all parts needed for replacment when fitting it. £193.23 but i know its not gonna fail like cheaper ones can.

I will be honest with you. They are ****part - its so very tempting sometimes just to buy there stuff as its a good price, but its a false economy - you will buy 2 of them in the same time one good one would have lasted for £5 more.

You will need the black spacer on it. Fit it - keep an eye on it and it will hopefully see you long enough.

Yeah I know they're **** disco, but I'm hoping! It does have a bit of weight to it and it feels fairly substantial but if it does go I'll be spending a bit more on a better one. Who else make them? Are Bearmach any good?

to be honest beamach stuff can be equally as bad as britpart if not worse. I've had a few things that are quite frankly ****e!
Now you mention it it one of them was actually a fuel pump!

The other thing you have to be careful of is not all genuine land rover stuff is better. I bought some drums for my od series. Pattern ones were £10 each with casting number blah blah and genuine ones in a land rover box were over twice the price with the exact same blah blah casting number on.
They were identical and i've seen this with a lot of stuff as my mate used to work for a main dealer and he'd show me.
The mark up on "genuine" parts is sometimes rediculous.
Rear brake shoes for an early 90 at a dealer will cost you about £70 and will be the same as a £10 pattern set but not in a green box!

i wouldnt buy brake parts, body bits, wheel bearings ect from genuine land rover but things like engine bearings, timing belts, major engine parts i would say genuine is better.

My timing belt was from paddocks, cost me about £8. Dayco belt (what OEMs fit anyway). Did me around 15,000 miles. I know it aint much, but i may have buggered the engine before it snapped again anyway...

dayco are good. Like i said, most OEM fit them. The local motor factor cudn' believe how cheap paddocks were for 'em either.

I think subaru fit them at the factory in fact.

15,000 ? that aint much for a timing belt. i would expect 25,000 at least.

i buggered the engine long before the belt broke. I filled it with water by mistake.

the again makes/made me think the belt snapped at some point ?

never mind, it made sense to me.

The belt was fine. The block however, had bits missing from it. Bastid puddles... Weren't even that deep.

Thats crazy! For that money might asyell fit a zeus kit and be done with it! I buy timing belts from anywhere aslong as the belt is branded by a suitable manufacturer ill use it £200 your Mad! Jai
