I am thinking of putting a snorkel and breather kit on my new project defender 110. Do you folks put breather kits on aswell? I have seen some footage of axle breather kits but is there any other important breather pipes to consider? do you run the breather piping into the snorkel tube?

Is the snorkel ever likely to be used in anger or are you fitting it to look hard, ahem to improve the looks of your tratter? If you do plan on going swimming the it is advisable to extend all the breather hoses and run them via a manifold up into the snorkel

As Marmaduke says - axle / transmission / pump breathers are far more important than the showy bit on top. I took the raised intake off my last Landy as it just got in the way (and let's face it, few of us actually wade to bonnet depth and over!) but the breather pipes continued to do valiant service through local fords and the odd flood. And let's face it, unless you're prepping it for overland adventures, the dust-avoiding benefits of the raised intake are going to be marginal in the UK!

Of course that meant that when the Landy got nicked I got left with half a raised intake...

thanks folks..hoping to eventually do an overland adventure with my son, so starting at the bottom and working may way up.....slowly. just wanting to learn to do as much as possible myself so that I can have a chance of doing running repairs as I go..

I ran my piping up the side of the snorkel.

+1, I did the same. I fitted a Paddock one which cost £69 at the time. It has been on there for about five years now and is fine. Takes a bashing and is a working snorkel. If I was doing it again I would probably go for the Mantech one as I think they look a bit better.

This will be the second hurricane season since I installed the snorkel. Last year we were lucky.
Mine is also a working snorkel, at least I hope so, has yet to be tested.
Not many years go buy without a serious flooding from a storm.
