Just a note on break lights. The Landrover lamps cost about £12.00 each which is still cheap.
As mentioned in last post -the break lights were on which ever way the bulb was fitted.
On closer inspection I found that the brass contacts where the bulb sits had stray copper bridging across making a constant break light circuit.
This advise may be of use to other auto electrical novice like myself.

I've had to try and explain to a breakdown club that I repaired a lightbulb after having this with a bulb their patrol fitted to a vauxhall corsa. The vehicle wouldn't start after the bulb was fitted as it was an auto and had blown the brake light fuse and therefore wouldn't recognise the foot being on the brake pedal when starting.

As it was one of the clubs own patrols that went out I had to explain what I had done. Their system wouldn't recognise 'permanent repair to brake/tail bulb':D:D:D
