So, brought freelander td4 2003 back in March..been running fine.

Last weds it would start. Turned Iver wudnt fire up. My mechanic (not familiar with land rovers currently works with lorrys!) checked most common areas. The fuel pump was not making any noise on ignition ie the buzzing/whining. Eventually it started. He plugged it in and fault code 2160. Egr valve nothe responding. Two landrover specialists said fuel pump. And if you gave it tap with hammer it started lol! Off I trot down to euros who sell me wrong pump back I got for a diff one. The pump on mine is in the rear wheel arch much to my mechanics annoyance!

So all fitted and on....car runs alot better no longer lagging picks up nice again. However!! Really loud humming buzzing electrical sound whilst driving and doesn't stop like used to? This is the only one euros had that will fit no more expensive alternative it was £100 but with discount was £60 believe it's a HAAS one. I also noticed when started my freelander before it sounded like someone was jolting the throttle "brum brum brum" sorry very girlie explanation and now that seems to be pretty non existent so it seems atm pump.was.dying however why so loud?? Can anyone help? Is this normal? Have others had this? So annoying! Cars grrrr! :) TIA

Euros do a pierburg one, you may need to order it.
Might be an idea to get one and wait till this start playing up. Unless you cannot stars the noise. My professional advice would be to turn the stereo up till it starts playing up.

Return the euro one as faulty stating it is very noisy and is intermittent ie spluttering now and again, order a pierburg from them or else where, as they run silent and last longer maybe 85,000 miles or more I have found,

Second thoughts I agree with Arctic. You could go back ask for a replacement pierburg unit and tell them you will return the pump when they supply a new unit.

Going back to euros today they said they ste going to sort after selling me yhe wrong bloody pump in the first place having to swap now this ggrrrrrrrrr!!

Is it worth doing filter whilst there?

Yes I would change the filter also considering the low cost of them, that way you know you are good to go under that wheel arch ;)

as the others have said , get it replaced with an oem one and also get them to replace the filter so that it's all done for the winter

have they also given the engine a good service including checking all the anti freeze

hope it all gets sorted out

Hey so update. Went euros they have given me the pierburg one fitted that and no noisy ness and is fine!!! Didn't get chance to do filter as we are off tomorow away and limited time. Luckily my mechanic doubles up as my other half and it's seems the filter would take 20mimsg to do one day pop wheel off.

I do still get this slight funny sound on start with what sounds like someone pushing throttle down couple times revving it almost bit odd! But fuel pump sorted after that palava. Thanks guys for all your help on that one! :)

glad u got it sorted out

will come on for the first 15-25 secs then u shouldn't hear it after that , normally better to replace the filter when replacing the pump so it's all done and dusted , giving u peace of mind

write a date on it when It was replaced

there's some great info on here in what u should do and look out for , get ur better half to have a quick look unless he's already aware of them

always good to know the final outcome

just fitted a pierberg pump in wheel arch, and new filter to my TD4, noisier than the old cheap one that packed in. runs ok just noisy, and its brand new £141. checked no leaks, sounds like an angry bee

It should run virtually silent, so make sure it's in the housing correctly, if so remove it and get it sent back, you could have got a poor one it can always happen.

Just tried a brand new bosch pump, still noisy, so cant have two dodgy new pumps, not else can go wrong to cause the noise

I bought a Pierberg one 12 months ago. It's been noisy since day one. I was not happy but couldn't be bothered to take it back. I might regret that.
