ive got a 94 300tdi ES disco, when im driving its constantly pulling to the left as if the trackings out (its not as i had it done twice in the last 3 months the last being very recent) also, and intermitently, it pulls to the left fairly sharpish when braking firmly. is this a seized/seizing caliper, or something else?

finaly and possibly not relating, i get a bit of steering wobble when i hit a bump (as if swivels are loose/gone) have jacked up both sides and no play in wheel bearings or swivels, new trackrod ends and drop arm etc is all fine. the rear bearings have slight play but the wobble is felt through the steering wheel.

any help greatly aprechiated.
 
Sounds like a binding brake which is causing your pulling, go to an MOT center and ask them to do a brake balance check on the rolling road, this will tell you whats what...

Wobble could be warped brakes from overheating (due to siezed caliper?) or possibly a tyre out of shape, I would get the run out checked first...
 
Sounds like a siezed caliper to me - that's what was wrong with my D2 td5 anyway. Not sure if it's the same for 300 tdi's, but from threads I've read on here and the advice from my indepent LR garage, it wasn't worth rebuilding the calipers and you are better off replacing them.
 
Just to check, if one of the calipers was sticking on wouldnt that brake be noticably hotter? I wouldnt go and stick your finger on it but wouldnt it smell more? Couldnt you jack the wheels up and see if it spins freely or feels stuck?

Hmmmmmmm, if a brake was only slightly on I would have thought it would smell quite a bit after 110 mile trip, mine smell if I give then some heavy use for only a short period of time (couple of miles).

As jongould says give it the brake balance test to rule out a seized caliper before you investigate further. Get one of the lads to do it on his lunch break for some beer tokens.
 
where are you buying your calipers from 150 a side is far too much! Try paddocks you'll probably get a whole axle set and pads for that price!
