Morning all,

The brake warning light has been coming on more than normal,

Since I know the sensor is faulty, and has given false readings in the past I would normally of ignored it,

However I have noticed inconsitant brake pressure recently,

I currently have to reapply the brake several times before they react how they should, which under heavy braking isnt what you want to find,

I checked the brake fluid reservoir to find it at the top end of the scale,

Not sure what it could be, replaced the brakes recently (April),

Since its on the verge of dangerous I've taken it off the road,

Ideas what it could be,

Land Rover in question is a 1996 Defender 90 300TDI

Just as a random thought or two:

Failing vacuum pump for the booster/pinched line
More likely hydraulics if you have to multi-pump, tthough, I would expect. Sounds like a bleed is in order.

One thing you can do is to clamp off the flex lines one at a time and see where your pedal travel is being lost - that might tell you if it's a bad master or dodgy something at one of the corners.

non ABS I take it?

It's amazing how much air can hide in a Land Rover braking system. For mine I'm really glad I bought a pressure bleeder because doing it simply by pumping the pedal would have taken forever. Bleed them through and let them settle for a few hours or overnight and bleed them again, especially the passenger side rear.

In addition to possible problems with the servo and vacuum pump, you could think about the flexible hoses - did these get replaced when you did your brakes? maybe one or more of them is a little bit too flexible and is ballooning under pressure. Also it's worth checking that all the discs are running true and the wheel bearings are tight. If the discs are wobbling about it will push the pads away and give you a lot more pedal travel before you feel any braking action. No leaks from the master or slave cylinders I take it? No loose bleed nipples?

No ABS on my 90 lol,

Going to drain and refill entire brake system, cheers for the idea,

Had a look at the vacum pump after I got home, couldnt see much, was coated n mud and other stuff so that and the rest of the under side needs a good hosing down,

Will also go over each disc brake unit, they may have warped, then work my way up to the hoses,

Also every time i read nipples on here, i giggle to my self :5bsifone:

Going to be a long weekend :ballchain:
