Hi, iv tried searching but couldn't find much.

I fitted a set of new Delphi pads to the rear of my discovery just over 3 weeks ago. I have since done less than 300 miles with 2 days off roading. I only drive to and from the off road site. Upon stripping the rear axle off the car today iv pulled the pads out and 2 are bare metal and 2 have less than 1mm left. Has anyone else had this problem or know why they may have worn out so quick.

Discs are smooth. Callipers are operating well not seized. Just seems a bit strange to me.

mine last me at best 6 weeks between pad changes on the rears and 6-8 weeks on the fronts, i mainly use mine off road and the wife does about 10 mile a week in it during the winter too, its the mud or sandy ground you play on i reckon, my play pit is an old sand pit and some muddy forest tracks so it just grinds away the pads.

I now just buy the cheapest pads i can for the back, i tried all the main brands and there was no noticeable difference in wear rates, i think i will stick new calipers on just for the sake of it as a fresh caliper is only the cost of 2.5 sets of pads, it had new discs last summer and they are still smooth and show little wear.

Thanks for the comments good to know other people have the same issue. I jet wash the car after every outing which is normally every week. Iv been out about 12 times since I rebuilt my front brakes so I'm going to strip them down and see how they look although that was new discs pads and callipers so it may be down to the rears being old and sticking. I'm wondering if the metal guards on the rear discs are trapping mud and making it worse. Might just be time to replace the callipers and see if that works.

I have removed all the mud/stone guards from my brakes, it seemed pointless to have them, they were just getting ****ted about and stuff kept sticking inside between the disc and the shield, lose em:D
