I have fitted aftermarket disc/pads set on several of my Disco's and I don't think there is a lot in the two marques you suggest.

However, if you are about to change your front discs, may I suggest that you considor an upgrade to improve your braking performance.

Discs like these will give better braking and cooler running there less brake-fade if you ever drive in the mountains or to improve braking when towing a trailer:

- Performance_Braking

- Performance_Braking

- Performance_Braking

Good luck

Dave

Both brands have been around since the crust was formed on the earth, so no problem with either. Mintex is the favourite brand that is sold with disc sets.

As far as discs go, I'd not get too excited about super-duper discs unless you are into seriously heavy road work, the standard setup is pretty good, I've never seen much benefit in the drilled and grooved discs, tried them once on another vehicle and they were not as good, even allowing extra time for bedding-in.

Drilled and grooved discs actually have less area in contact with the pad if you think about it, although they clear water better than plain discs. The standard Disco 2 front discs are ventilated, rears are solid.

You cannot brake more than the tyres grip or the ABS allows.

Thanks for the replies guy's, I had considered getting the upgraded disc's/pads but alas opted for the Delphi Lockheed's in the end. Mainly due to them being local, their lower price (spent my xmas beer money:() and the fact that the Mrs. is not at all happy with the juddering under braking so I need to get em fitted this week (only car at the moment).

But she did get me an early xmas prezzie ... some new 3 ton axle stands, just in case the Disco flatten's me she say's:eek: must be the season to be jolly:D

The standard Disco brakes are so capable of dealing with anything one might do, that spending twice the cash on trendy grooved and / or ventilated discs would be a total waste of money.

These are not sports cars - they are over two-ton four-by-fours, and should be driven accordingly.

If EVER you get to the stage of over-heating the standard Disco brakes, then you are driving far too fast, braking far too hard and too often, and if towing you are PUSHING YOUR LUCK!

Keep calm, look ahead, and lay off the brake pedal, because all it does is slow you down.

Didn't this subject get done to death a few months back?

Despite the 200tdi having vented discs they were lacking but ONLY when used in competitions and pushed real hard in a hot climate. If you are driving normally I would be happy with the stock system, JMHO.

I'm with you Dave.
When I take up track racing in my TD5 Disco I might think about it!
But not before.
