Interesting though that some discs rust more quickly than others. The Xtrail discs were covered in rust on the braking surface after overnight dew in summer. Left for a week in the rain the initial braking was interesting. The P38 on the other hand shows little rust on the braking surfaces in the same conditions.:)

There are several different make ups of Grey Iron Keith. Also it depends on what was in the rain. It's not as pure as we may think.

And Nissan use even lower quality than LR Tony. Rain is the same for the P38 as it was for the Xtrail.

Discs used on British cars will be cast to an SAE (Society of automobile engineers) standard. Japs may use ITLLD (IT'LL DO) standard.:D:D

Subaru aren't any better it seems, a colleague from work has just had the discs and pads changed on her STi (it was only yesterday), today they are orange with rust. I suggested she paints the whole unbraked area orange so she can claim it is a styling feature to match the gold calipers.

I am sure I read in Bristol advertising a reference to adding chrome for their disks to stop rusting........

I've put on some ATE discs on the P38. They come painted light gray out of the box and the pads grind down the paint at the contact areas in few days. Braking was normal even during that period and the disks don't rust even after 1 year. Excellent performance and price.
