Opened up my range rover classic today as there was a horrible grating noise, pulled to one side when braking and a constant rumbling from the back.
I soon found out why when I took it apart

The back "pad" was loose in the caliper and getting dragged round the disc. No friction left at all and not much left of the metal plate!

On one side, the spring clip things that sit under the split pins had both disintegrated. I've had to put it back together with just the split pins.

Does anyone know where I can get any of these spring clips quickly? Is it going to be a paddocks jobbie, walk into land rover dealers for a few pence, or somewhere else?

Thanks in advance!

local independent or dealer should have them..

may i congratulate you on your lack of mantenence!!lol!!

You should get the pins and anti squeal springs from any motor factor. Ask for a pad fitting kit for your model. Bet the disc is not too happy.

Still amazes me that 2 of the most important things on a car people try to get 110% out of ( tyres and brakes ). They must of been like that a while

In my defense, I picked up the vehicle on Monday, and it was my day off today! The bloke who sold it me knocked £20 off because "it sounds like theres a stone in it" (so I only ended up paying £500 for the car...)

I'll nip round to the motor factors in the morning, I need bulbs and a number plate too :D

I shall let you off :) but get um all changed

Discs weren't great but I've certainly seen much worse, plan is when these pads are used up I'll change discs, pads, fluid and maybe even renew piston seals all round just as a matter of course... It now stops, in a straight line, reasonably quickly and nice and quiet so not too worried at present...
It came with a new set of pads up front but not on the back
First off, I'd better fix the handbrake and speedo :(

You can get a pad fitting kit that has new pins, spring clips etc. I can't remember where I got mine from, Paddocks I think but could have been MM 4x4 or FamousFour. Check out the websites and look for brake parts. Best to get the right part for the job. I'll have a look later and see if I can identify a part number and where I got 'em from.
