Hello,
I'm about to remove the rear brake calipers from my disco 1,
Would I be right in saying that the caliper bolts have a revers thread?
As they are well rusted on I'm Gona use a wrench gun to remove them and don't fancy snapping the bolts, DOH

Cheers

I'm fairly sure all the bolts on the caliber are normal, RH threads.

Get plenty of penetrating fluid on them afore you start and appn some heat, I'd start off by hand mysen rather than going in heavy handed and rounding through heads off with the compressor...

Cheers mate,
Its just that put me p38 in the local garage because i couldn't undo the caliper bolts only to be told they were revers thread. Made me think is it the same on the disco's.

I managed to find me haynes manual just now..... so i'll look in there.

Once again cheers fellow landy lover.

You'll need a breaker bar on them if you've not had them off in recent years.
They're an absolute b***ard.

I ended replacing all of mine.

Think you need a better garage matey:D
I bought a new bolt and took it into a good local tool shop. I found the 13mm 12 point socket which fit best, and used that.

I seem to recall that someone mentioned a non-metric socket that was an even better fit, but can't be arsed to find the info.

Thank to everybody on your replies.

I have hired a hilty wrench gun at the coct of £50 for the week.
Just tried it on two axles that have been in the garden and are well rusted after three years.....wow what a tool, there are only two bolts that i did not get off after using it on caliper hubbs and all bolts on and around the axles.:)

Ill be using it on the two discos soon.....

you would be better to crack them loose with a bar first :) Ok to to use the gun once loose but you have no control over the gun.

Use a good fitting socket and a bar :) or a bar with a pipe on it.
