Brain farted oil leak Plus a diff leak query. Q1.

Hi all,

After searching the forum, to no avail, I have 2x queries. I have a rear diff leak issue from the driver side (LHD vehicle), following a recent bearing change. The bearing purchased is the rear wheel bearing, oil ring short ABS cable etc. I have reduced, stopped the leak by jacking up the non-curbside wheel.

I suspect the O ring is suspect, can anyone give any pointers. I am also informed te bearing is now screwed by the oil leak dissolving the internal bearing grease. Please take into account, I neutralised the leak within 20 minutes of the leakage, by jacking up of the wheel and a block, underneath, to keep the Disco levelled.

The central oil leak is another question, which I will post.

D2 I assume? Where’s the leak actually coming from? Prop area or actually from the hub? In pic it looks like it’s from pinion seal but don’t know if vehicle has been moved?

D2 yes. Its dripping down from the inside of the wheel assembly onto the disc then to the inside of the wheel. This is a gravity issue, as I need to park on the curbside, putting one front and rear wheel on the pavement and the other side of the road. By levelling the roadside rear wheel, as in the picture, the leak stops.

I did go for a 5 minute drive after the newbearing fitment, and needed to park on the opposite side of the road. Thats when I noticed the leakage, all fitment was done today..

Seems I found the issue. In my haste to put the new bearing in, I did not check the O ring. On removing the bearing again, there is no O ring present. Need to buy one and a spare tomorrow.
