Freelander 1 Bottom Pulley Went Bang

What are the chances, I have a 3 Series BMW and this is exactly what happened to mine on FRI 76k miles. Looks just the same.

Luckily I just turned the engine over in a car park (motionless) and it was just a dull thud in the engine bay which alerted me to it.

Lucky. It's a PITA to change on the Freelander. Might be easier in the BMW as the engine is in-line. Good luck with it.
 
Here's how far I managed to tighten the pulley bolt. The line was vertical when I started.
