Bosch VE pump banjo restrictor filter

After reading some bits on VE pumps I thought I would have a look see at the return line banjo on the inj pump, this banjo has a very small hole as a restrictor I assume to keep pump pressure up, its also includes a small cone shaped filter.
So I removed the return banjos from both my 200 engines and flushed them through with brake cleaner, hole and filter clear, then dug out my spare inj pump and tested the banjo, blocked solid no brake cleaner would come out the restrictor hole.
Im guessing but reckon crud on the inside of the mesh can only come from inside the inj pump.
So out with the hacksaw and this is what I saw

Yes the banjo filter in the bosch ve pumps is a common fault most don't even know its their.

Be thing to do is remove it completely its not present in every pump
I would be more likely to try and get a new one for the pumps that don't have it. As much fuel filtration as I can get works well for me.
Looks like that could be rust in the mesh. That usually comes from the fuel tank at source.
 
You can't get replacements some clean it iv been taking them out for a long time main dealers have be diag injection pumps when all it was all along was blocked banjo filter as I said some don't even have it as Bosch deemed it Not needed

That is a shame, but seen it with other stuff too. Going back in the seventies and eighties most had sedimenters, inline filter etc. Now usually just a single(expensive!) fuel filter element! Accountants design machines nowadays! :(
 
The spare part number comes up as valid on google searches so suggesting its pukka, cant say for certain 100 percent as havent had the need to buy one.
Dont forget the filter is filtering the **** that has already been through your inj pump!
