You're the ****t with a tail gate you cant open...You think we got a crystal ball? a bit more info might help

Lock motor issues....

If the top opens, the button is fine IMO as it is doing what it should....

Do you get lock motor noise to release the catches when you press the button for a second time, or is it silent??

If you get noise but not able to open, linkages knackered, if no noise on second press, lock motor sounds a bit dicky!

Not much I can add to Saint's reply but it's an easy enough job, one of the simplest systems on a P38, the button closes a circuit to a solenoid that pulls the linkage.

If you can get the carpet off the inside of the tailgate you can open from the insid by pulling the motor back by hand
atleast you can have a proper look then

If the motor sounds in the bottom tailgate its the linkage if not its the motor or its wireing

Hi All
I cannot open my boot . well the top half opens but the bottom half will not open! any ideas?

Open the spare wheel well to give you some space. It will open if you force it.

Reach down with a 1p coin and force your hand between the tailgate carpet and the plastic hinge cover and with the coin, undo the 3 plastic trib screws.

Once they are undone, pull the trim off. It will come off if you bend it. Then you are in to the mechanism and can try and figure it out from there.

There may be an easier method and don't blame me if you break something but thats what I had to do last weekend when I'd been refurbing the button and put it back on wrong and closed it without checking it worked! Doh! :)

IIRC, you have to close it to test it (which I think is odd) as the latches have to be engaged to activate the button and lock solenoids...

The L322 can be tested without closing the apertures - I know this because when leaning over the lower tailgate if you lean on the release button (as it is on the top of the lower section) it cycles th lock solenoid repeatedly!

There is a redesigned rubber button top to prevent this and I haven't got one yet!

Yep, maybe... But anyway, if anyone else is doing work on their tailgate button, leave the carpeted trim piece off until you are 100% sure it works! :)
