Happy new year everyone,

Just a quick one, has anyone every tried to replace their classic's boot floor with a discovery kit like this one,

LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 1 COMPLETE REAR BOOT FLOOR KIT 1989-1998 | eBay

I understand it doesnt have the dimple for the spare wheel, but then again my spare wouldnt fit in it any way!

The other thing is i think its a bit shorter than the range rover one but im not sure by how much?

Im offshore at the moment so dont have access to Hot Fuzz (my classic) for measurments but im kean to have the parts ready for when i get home.

Not sure about the disco kit, but yrm metal solutions do some of the parts, and 2nd hand rangey floor's come up on eBay quite often

I was lucky enough to pick up some vgc 2 door floor sides with the arches too that we managed to get to fit my 4 door, but it was a bit of a job as we had to cut rust out of the inner wings and do the rear crossmember and outer arches/door shuts at the same time!

Im hoping to only have to do the job once and want to get away from second hand parts,

thought with a bit of skill (i have a little) and determination (i have alot) i could cut and plate it all to fit.

For some reason owning a land rover has made me quite good with a mig welder, Who' have thought..............

Maybe people could post a coulpe of pics of there boot repairs to give me some tips??

if you search there`s a sh@t load on site :)

I'm with you on doing the job only once. I took a lot of my parts and had them galvanised before fitting, then I zinc prime them before using multi coats of chassis paint, then coat it all with some factory underseal to try and give it s the best start possible :)

If you pm me your email address I have loads of pics taken during the work and would be happy to send them on

I have been looking for my RRC, you can get the sides for the boot from,
Body & Panels
or YRM do side panels that you cut to fit.
I don't need a boot floor but am informed by Classic Kev that you need 2 Disco floor panels and make one to fit an RRC.

Indeed you do, a Disco floor panel is shorter than an RRC one and you can't buy RRC floor panels.

It is possible to repair an RRC floor if it isn't too badly rusted out, typically there will be rust holes where the supports are spot welded to the floor panel, then the whole of the back edge where it sits on the cross member is an area of risk and lastly both sides.

I repaired my floor, was not as hard as I thought but folding steel to make new sides gave me a bit of a headache until I improvised using a high lift jack as an anvil. The back edge wasn't so bad, you'll need a number of clamps and a big hammer;). Here's a couple of pics of my repair effort!

The problem I had at the time was that my sides were rotten in very awkward places so weren't easily repairable. There were various places advertising the panels required, but they were all coming from the same factory that a friend of mine is in contact with directly. At the time nobody had the 2 door panels in stock and they hadn't sorted out the tooling for the 4 door panels. The 2 door panels i used were as good as new anyway so we made them fit :)

YRM's panels don't have the recess for the spare wheel. As it's turned out, i've just put a vertical toroidal lpg tank in there now so i no longer need the recess, but I didn't know that at the time unfortunately.
